The Punjab government is going to lay an Express Way in the middle of the city, starting from Chungi No-9 and it will connect Bahauddin Zakariya University and Northern bypass with Bahawalpur bypass via Humayun Road, Daulat Gate, Hafiz Jamal Road and BCG Chowk.
The work on the road is underway and it is hoped that it will be completed by the end of the first quarter of current financial year. Inspecting the road construction work, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah said that the Express Way would prove the fastest route to reach one corner of city from the other.
He directed the contractor to accomplish construction of service roads along Humayun Road within seven days. He said that plantation would be done in the middle of the Humayun Road between Chungi No-9 and Fish Market for the beautification of the project. He directed the owners of shops demolished for the construction of the road to remove rubble within next two days.
Earlier, the DCO also inspected Bosan Road widening project and directed the contractor to expedite the work.
He ordered demolition of a plaza at Chungi No-6 that was declared dangerous and asked the contractor to start work on service road near Chungi No-9. He expressed displeasure over the delay in removal of electricity poles by the Multan Electric Power Company despite payment and directed the ADC Ali Akbar Bhatti to contact the Chief Executive Mepco and get the work done immediately.
Taking notice of news regarding delay in Old Shujabad Road project, the DCO visited the site along with NHA officials. The NHA officials told the DCO that the authority had to pay Rs. 150 million to the contractor and he was willing to resume work if half of the payment was made. The DCO assured the NHA officials that he would contact federal and Punjab governments for this purpose.
