MQM boycotts upper house proceedings, stages walk out

Islamabad- MQM members staged a walkout from the House and boycotted the proceedings today, to protest against the raid on MQM's headquarters nine zero.

Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi speaking on a point of order said the Rangers have raided MQM party Headquarters Nine Zero early this morning, killing a cameraman and arresting over a hundred party workers. Condemning the incident he alleged, that Rangers have become party against MQM. He is of the view that operation in Karachi has been politicized.

Nasreen Jalil, Shirala Mallick, Anwaarul Haq Thanvi and Babar Khan Ghauri of MQM also condemned the raid on party headquarters by the Rangers, and said MQM is being targeted in the Karachi operation. They said Rangers have also raided the residence of the sister of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. They demanded of the Prime Minister to order investigation into the incident.

Speaking in the house, Leader of House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq says, there is no enmity between the government and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. He said Karachi operation is being led by the Chief Minister Sindh involving Rangers, Police, intelligence agencies and other law enforcement agencies. He said he will try to get final opinion of the Chief Minister Sindh, regarding the raid on MQM's headquarters nine zero.

He contradicted remarks of an MQM member that PML-N is taking revenge from the party for not supporting the government in Chairman Senate elections. Farhatullah Babar said timing and the manner of raid on a political party headquarters has raised serious questions. Abdul Qayyum Soomro said it is a wrong way to raid a political office. He said no political party supports terrorists.

Mian Raza Rabbani termed the raid on a political party office as inappropriate. He said Pakistan Peoples Party, has always struggled to maintain the sanctity of the political parties and their offices. Shahi Syed supported the operation being carried out in Karachi and said he presented himself and his party in this regard.

Abdul Rauf said, rights of all the stakeholders living in Karachi should be recognized. He said MQM people express happiness when the action is taken against others but make hue and cry when the affected by the operation.
