PESHAWAR - Traders’ community has demanded deployment of Rangers in provincial metropolis Peshawar due to worsening law and order situations in the province, and demanded the arrest of killers of their senior trader Haji Haleem Jan.
The demand was made during a condolence reference organized by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) regional office here at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday.
Besides ANP leader Haji Adeel, former Provincial Minister, Zahir Shah, and Provincial Minister Inayatullah, a large number of members of trading community attended the condolence reference.
The traders expressed concern over the growing incidents of targeted killings, extortions, and phone calls by extortionists through Afghan SIMs.
They blamed the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government for its failure to ensure protection to the lives and properties of masses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in general and in Peshawar in particular.
They added that it is prime duty of the government and security agencies to ensure protection of lives and properties of masses.
On the occasion, Ghulam Ali criticized the PTI led provincial government for its alleged failure to bring any visible change in the province.
“Industries and business was being shifted to other parts of the country due to poor law and order situations, which had ultimately trigged unemployment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.
He demanded of the federal and provincial government to formulate joint strategy aimed to overcome the prevailing situation.
While paying glowing tribute to slain leader, Haji Haleem Jan, he said the provincial government and security agencies have failed to arrest killers of Haleem Jan.
He said security is major issue of the province, which should be addressed on priority basis.
Haji Adeel said that as many as 200 people, mostly trader were receiving calls from extortionists through Afghan SIMs, which he termed as the matter of grave concern, and both federal and provincial government should take serious action.
He also criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government for its poor performance in the province, and said there was no change, which was being claimed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan during his pre-elections speeches.
He also demanded the federal government to make arrangement for repatriation of internally displaced people from various tribal agencies in a dignified manner.
Later, a resolution was unanimously adopted in which call for deployment of Rangers in Peshawar for the protection of traders community and general public, and immediate ban on Afghan SIMs was demanded.
It was also demanded to ensure arrest of the killers of Haji Haleem Jan, withdrawal of notices, served by municipal cooperation against 22 units in Peshawar sought.
