GILGIT - Pakistan Muslim Leag Nawaz (PML-N-led government in Gilgit-Baltistan has canceled development project worth Rs2.64 billion approved by previous government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Gilgit- Baltistan.
Amidst division within the party over the decision, PML-N government has decided to cancel all projects announced by the former chief minister Syed Mehdi Shah, also depriving three members of the legislative assembly of Rs80 million fund each.
To avoid reaction from the sitting three members, including Speaker of GBLA Fida Muhammad Nashad, Minister of Food Janbaz Khan and Opposition member Nawaz Khan Naji, the government has decided to allocate Rs20 million additional development fund to them in the existing budget.
Though the speaker and minister of this government could not protest against the decision openly, only opposition member Nawaz Khan Naji was raising his vice against the step. Earlier, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman declared the project as an attempt to rig the election 2015 by the former chief minister Mehdi Shah. He claimed that these projects were not announced as per public interest but to facilitate the GBLA members.
