ISLAMABAD- Pakistan today clarified that the Chinese president Xi Jinping visit to Islamabad is delayed and not cancelled in the wake of protest demonstrations staged in the federal capital.
In a weekly press briefing, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that various agreements between the neighboring countries would be inked in Pakistan.
The spokesperson refused to comment on Imran Khan’s statement regarding postponement of Chinese’s head of the state visit to Pakistan, saying that ministers had already replied to the Khan’s remarks and it was not the duty of FO to take notice of political statements.
Tasnim Aslam said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had replied to a letter sent to him by his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. In a letter, she said, the prime minister offered assistance in Indian-held Kashmir for relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees. The letter also apprised the Indian PM about environmental hazards that war at Siachin could potentially cause, the spokesman said.
She said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif suggested that the two countries should increase cooperation on environment related issues including discussion for resolution of disputes affecting climates of the region. Tasnim Aslam said water disputes between Pakistan and India are very important and needs to be discussed.
The foreign office spokesman said that Pakistan considers Daesh as ‘terrorist organization’ and the country supports to deal the outfit like other terrorist groups are treated. Replying to a question, she said that Obama had issued a statement to target Daesh and not Syria.
Regarding floods she said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Pakistani missions abroad to open accounts for collections of funds for flood affected people. She said Pakistan has not launched appeal to international community for foreign assistance. She said accounts for collection of funds are being opened by Pakistani missions abroad, so that Pakistani Diaspora can participate in flood relief activities.
About terrorism, the spokesperson said Pakistan is fighting against terrorism in all its manifestations and our armed forces have been taking action against this menace without any discrimination.
