ISLAMABAD- Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday expressed reservations over the method adopted by the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat to accept the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of national assembly (MNAs).
According to the details, the Election Commission has expressed reservations over acceptance of resignations on varying dates instead of accepting all resignations on the same date. The Commission believes the discrepancies in dates have created constitutional complexities.
ECP said after contacting the NA Secretariat that the constitutional complexities occurred with acceptance of Javed Hashmi’s resignation on August 18 because the by-elections have to take place within 60 days of vacation of the seats.
The commission is of the view that the constitutional timeframe is reduced if the resignations are accepted in the previous dates, urging the Secretariat to accept resignations on the dates the notification is issued instead of the previous dates.
