Sacked judges ready to sink or swim together

ISLAMABAD - As many as three more sacked judges of the Supreme Court called on deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry here on Friday. Justice Rana Bhagwan Das, Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Rabbani were the three colleagues of country's former top judge who visited him at his residence. Sources privy to the meeting informed TheNation that Justice Rana and Justice Rabbani purposefully came from Karachi to meet deposed CJ while Justice Mulk joined them here in the Judges Colony where he is stationed at an official residence. During the meeting, they exchanged views on a number of issues including the Murree Accord that ensures the restoration of all deposed judges who were sacked on November 3 last year, said the sources. They also discussed media reports regarding the possible amendment in the constitutional scheme to limit the tenure of the chief justice to three years from that age of superannuation. It was also agreed that all the deposed judges of apex court would sink or swim together come what may in the times to come, as they stood together for independence of judiciary and supremacy of Constitution before and after the events of November 3 when President Musharraf refurbished the superior judges through PCO. The sources also said that the deposed judges expressed dismay over the apparent intrigues in various corners close to ruling People's Democratic Alliance that is the signatory of Murree Accord. Recent events of violence in Lahore and Karachi also came under discussion, the sources also disclosed.
