ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tuesday lodged a strong protest against the unprovoked firing by the India troops at the Line of Control (LoC).
Deputy High Commissioner of India was summoned to the Foreign Office to lodge a protest over the killing of Fareeda, 28-year-old lady by Indian troops at the Line of Control in Jandrot Sector on Saturday.
Fareeda, who received bullet in her belly, breathed her last earlier Tuesday at the Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Pakistan also condemned the latest unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian security forces at the LoC in Nakial sector near Kotli and Bhimber Gali sector in which Pakistani posts were targeted.
Indian security forces have committed 37 and 24 unprovoked ceasefire violations on the LoC and the Working Boundary in July and August respectively.
TWO KILLED IN IHK
AFP adds: Indian soldiers Tuesday killed two suspected freedom fighters in Held Kashmir after police and troops battled scores of stone-throwing residents who were trying to help the rebels escape, police said.
The soldiers came under fire after they surrounded Ratnipora village, 35 kilometres south of the main city of Srinagar, overnight Monday following a tip-off that rebels were in the area.
Hundreds of villagers poured onto the streets when the gunbattle resumed at first light, throwing rocks at police and chanting “We want freedom!” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
Officers fired tear gas and live rounds into the air to disperse the crowds before soldiers finally gunned down the rebels in paddy fields, the officer said.
“Two ‘terrorists’ were killed, and the encounter has ended. Both are locals,” said Javaid Gillani, inspector general of police for the region, adding that a policeman was injured.
“There was a lot of stone pelting in the area,” Gillani said.
