Zardari tasks Chan, Wattoo to bring back dissidents

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has given the task to his newly appointed political advisor Nadeem Afzal Chan and Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo to revise party policy in Punjab and bring back disgruntled leaders and workers into the party fold.
Sources told The Nation that the task also included holding of meetings with leaders, workers and particularly with youth in Punjab.
The former president appointed Nadeem Afzal Chan as his advisor on political affairs and gave him assignment to arrange meetings with local PPP leadership and youth.
Zardari instructed Chan to revise the party policy in Punjab, change the leadership of People’s Students Federation (PSF) and activate the youth. In addition, he asked Chan to activate the party provincial presidential office and make the appointments of local level party presidents and monitor their performance on monthly basis. Zardari ordered Wattoo, Jahingir Badar, Nadeem Afzal Chan and other party leadership to spend time in party secretariat and build good relationship with workers.
Sources informed that Co-Chairman PPP Asif Zardari will visit different cities of Punjab at the end of December where he would address workers especially youth.
Zardari wants to mobilize youth and activate the PSF at the union council level in Punjab to counter the rising popularity of PTI. Zardari ensured the Punjab leadership that he would visit the province on monthly basis and as per the request of provincial leadership.
A senior leader of PPP Punjab informed The Nation that PPP cannot attract youth in Punjab without the presence of Chairman PPP Bilwal Bhutto Zardari.
He said that PPP local leaders and workers staged protest against provincial leadership and demanded of Asif Zardari to remove Manzoor Wattoo because he has no time to address complaints of local leaders and workers.
He appreciated the appointment of Nadeem Afzal Chan as advisor and demanded the party leadership to appoint the dedicated young leaders at different party offices.
Talking to The Nation, Nadeem Afzal Chan confirmed that Asif Ali Zardari has given him the task of party’s revival in Punjab and arrangement of his visits to different cities of the province.
He said the leadership had given him a tough assignment but he was hopeful to manage the current party issues at provincial level. “I will try to engage youth and arrange the meetings of the party co-chairman with local leadership,” he added.
