Zardari stresses following values of tolerance

ISLAMABAD - Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday felicitated the nation on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi to be celebrated today (Monday). In a message, Zardari said, “Eid Milad is an occasion to reflect on the teachings of tolerance and understanding that the holy Prophet (peace be upon him) preached, and which transcended boundaries of geography, ages and climes.”

“The need for imbibing the virtues of tolerance and understanding universally is as great today as it was at any time before as the values of tolerance and plurality seem to be receding not only in Pakistan but globally,” he said. Zardari added: “today we rejoice in the birthday of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and also pray for wisdom to imbibe the true spirit of his message of love and humility and follow his teachings. Indeed homage is paid to him everywhere and at all time.”

He said on this auspicious day “as I felicitate everyone, I also pray that Allah give us the wisdom and guide us on the path to dedicate ourselves to the teachings of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and rekindle our souls with the light lit by him.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Zardari expressed his condolences with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Begum Shahzadi Suleman over the death of her son.

“For an aging parent the death of a young son is a terrifying experience and excruciating pain, the intensity of which can be felt only by the grieving parent,” he said in a message of condolence.

“No words are soothing enough to extricate Begum Shahzadi Suleman from this overwhelming grief,” the statement read.
