ISLAMABAD - Awami National Party Vice-President Senator Haji Adeel on Monday announced that some 25 political parties have confirmed their participation in the All Parties Conference they have called on February 14.
Addressing a press conference here at National Press Club on Monday ANP central leader said that the proposed APC would be aimed at evolving a national strategy to deal with the growing spate of terrorism, which has acquired monstrous dimension.
He further said that the menace of terrorism, which was earlier confined to Federally Administered Tribal Areas was now spilling over to other parts of the country as well.
Giving details about the parties Haji Adeel informed that PPP, PML-Q, PML-N, JUI-F, BNP-M, MQM, PkMP, BNP-A, Sindh Awami Tehreek, Sunni Tehreek, , JUP-S, Awami Workers Party (AWP) , Tehreek-e-Islami, Sindh United Party, Qami Watan Party, JUP-Noorani and Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) had confirmed their participation in the APC. Tribal grand jirga (assembly) has also been invited to the APC through Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he added.
Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel said that all the parties have to forge unity to contain this menace and ANP had taken a lead to provide platform to all the political forces to sit together and evolve some joint strategy to rid the country from these non-state actors.
The senator said although the government had previously held talks with the militants and had even accepted their 'Nizam-i-Adl', it did not deter the insurgents from engaging in terrorism.
Adeel claimed that more soldiers had died in the 'war against terrorism' than in the wars of 1965 and 1971.
The lawmaker said all political parties had made the collective decision to launch the operation in Swat.
He said all parties would have to get together in order to decide on establishing law and order in the country, adding that the ANP would contest the upcoming general elections on its slogan for peace.
