Bandits rule the roost



SHERGARH - Dacoits took away Rs0.5 million, 35 tolas of gold ornaments, 4 cellphones, a 12 bore gun and other household items paraphernalia worth hundreds of thousands of rupees at gunpoint here in four separate incidents in the limits of Shergarh Police here the other night.
In the first incident, five unidentified armed men entered the house of one Abdul Qadir, a resident of Chak 26/D. They held the family hostage and made off with Rs1,20,000 and gold ornaments weighing 31 tolas.
In the second raid, 12 unidentified armed men stormed the house of Ali Abaas, son of Rahat Abbas, a resident of Shergarh and took away Rs2,10,000, 2 tolas of gold ornaments, 2 cellphones, a 12-bore pump action gun and other domestic items worth thousands of rupees.
Similarly, 12 armed culprits scaled the wall of the house of one Iqbal Hassan, son of Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Shergarh.
The dacoits broke opened the door of the room where the family members were asleep and took them hostage at gunpoint. The bandits took away Rs1,55,000, 2 tolas gold ornaments, a cellphone and other domestic articles worth thousands of rupees.
In the fourth robbery, reportedly Azeem alias Ranjhi, Shaukat alias Kaka and 10 other unidentified accused entered the house of Muhammad Riaz, son of Muhammad Yaqoob, a resident of Shergarh and ran away with Rs65,000 cash and a mobile set. The police have registered separate cases and started investigation.
The rising incidents of robberies have sent a shocking wave among the residents. They have demanded the law enforcement agencies to curb the crime and bring the culprits to book.
