Protests as robbers, killers on the loose


HAFIZABAD - The people of the district including traders, lawyers and students protested the rising incidents of murder, dacoity, robbery and abduction separately here.
Firstly, lawyers boycotted the court proceedings to protest the murder of Nasrullah Warraich Advocate in Lahore last night.
They offered Fateha for the departed soul and demanded immediate arrest of the killer(s). They passed a a resolution and urged the government to provide protection to the black-coats.
Separately, four armed bandits stormed into the house of Qamar in Mohallah Sabzi Mandi Sukheki and fled away with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 500,000. In another incident, three armed men riding a car kidnapped teenage student Matlood alias Mithoo son of Master Talib Hussain.
In the wake of the dacoity and kidnapping incidents, the people staged a protest demonstration and blocked the road by burning tyres.  Chanting slogans against the police, they said that the police had failed to bridle rampant bandits. Then the protesters dispersed as the police officials assured them of early arrest of the perpetrators. Later, the abductee was thrown on the roadside.
Likewise, the people of Thatha Shamsa protested non-arrest of a proclaimed offender who was wanted in more then thirty cases of murder, robbery and dacoity. A few days ago, PO Munir Ahmed alias Saboo of Sooianwala along with his 20 to 25 accomplices opened indiscriminate fire on the residence of Zaheer Ahmed Chatha whereupon, his grandmother Hameeda Bibi was killed while his mother and sister sustained serious wounds and admitted to a Lahore hospital in critical conditions. Zaheer and other alleged that due to terror created by the PO, the villagers were forced to stop their sons/daughters sending to the schools.
The villagers appealed to the Punjab chief minister and the Gujranwala RPO to order immediate arrest of the PO. Meanwhile, SHO Rana Jameel Qaser said that a fresh case of murder has been registered against Munir and 14 others and the police were raiding different places to arrest them.
