Education, health facilities in Fata top priorities: Governor

PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah, has said that development and promotion of educational and healthcare facilities in FATA have remained top priorities in the ongoing efforts for socio-economic uplift of the people.
He added that reconstruction and rehabilitation side by side also remained a major priority subject while concerted efforts are under way for ensuring peace, stability and security in FATA. This he said while presenting welcome address at the Grand tribal jirga of FATA held at Governor's House, Peshawar on Saturday. 
President Mamnoon Hussan, Federal Minister for SAFRON, Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Advisor to the Prime Minister Ameer Muqam and MNA Nazir Hussain from North Waziristan Agency also addressed the jirga, besides tribal elders from all the tribal agencies. 
It merits to mention here that grand tribal jirga was especially convened to further cement the ongoing efforts for polio-eradication in the area.
Referring to the ongoing efforts for polio eradication, the Governor said it is a new challenge in FATA and hectic efforts are under way to protect children from this disease. The North and South Waziristan agencies, FR Bannu and Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, wherein majority of the polio cases have emerged over the recent past, are the priority areas in this respect. He himself, he added, has practically participated for launching vaccination process in Khyber Agency at the advent of New Year.
In Bara, the governor said, 11 door-to-door polio vaccination campaigns have been successfully carried out during the last year. Similarly, he added, the Frontier Region of Peshawar has also been opened for door-to-door polio vaccination campaigns. He also thanked the President for gracing the grand tribal jirga as part of struggle to promote realisation amongst the tribal people towards polio eradication. Talking about the reconstruction and rehabilitation process, the Governor said keeping in view the magnitude of damages, it is a big challenge and efforts are under way to materialise the aspirations of the people to the maximum extent.
