IHC seeks record of cases registered against Lakhvi

ISLAMABAD- Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed interior ministry and Advocate General of Pakistan (AGP) to present all the record and details of the cases registered against Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi, alleged mastermind in Mumbai attacks.

IHC gave these orders during course of hearing of review petition filed by government against decision of high court on suspension of detention of Lakhvi today.

Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi remarked “This is history of Pakistan. An accused who is released by the court is subjected to more cases and is detained if government does not want to release him.”

Review petition filed by federation against the court decision on suspension of Lakhvi detention came up for hearing before IHC today. Advocate General of Pakistan (AGP) Mian Abdul Rauf, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Afnan Karim Kundi, Barrister Jahangir Jadoon and interior ministry officials appeared in the court.

Government prosecutor told the court the decision of detention of Lakhvi was challenged in Supreme Court (SC) and apex court had nullified the IHC decision. IHC should review its decision on suspension of detention of Lakhvi.

Counsel for petitioner told the court no evidence could be presented in the court against Lakhvi on his involvement in Mumbai case or other cases. Government is not releasing his client under the pressure of people and government of India.

AGP told the court there were certain things which could not be made public and can be provided only to the counsel of the petitioner. The court remarked “Mumbai attack case will be decided on merit. Court will hear the stances of both the parties in detail. The counsel for petitioner prayed the court to issue orders for production of his client on next hearing in the court. The court not accepts this request.

The counsel for the petitioner told the court Indian Commission had identified chief of Jamat ul Dawwat Hafiz Saeed and Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi as leaders of Al-Qaeda while no record has been presented against his client which poses any threat to law and order situation. All the baseless and illegal actions are being taken against his client under Indian pressure. Government is using dilatory tactics in  the release of his client. The hearing of the case was adjourned for one day.
