Budget promises education projects for South Punjab

MULTAN - The Punjab government has allocated Rs6,650 million for promotion of higher education in the province in budget 2012-13.  The details revealed that a number of new educational institutions will be set up in South Punjab. The government has allocated Rs300 million for setting up Ghazi University in Dera Ghazi Khan while different departments of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan and Islamia University Bahawalpur shall also be upgraded. Similarly, Rs20 million is allocated for construction of building for Government College for Boys Jalalpur Pirwala while another Rs20 million is earmarked for Government College for Boys Shujabad. The government has allocated Rs10 million for construction of residences and girls hostel in Government College for Women Shujabad.
However, the government has allocated a meagre amount of Rs5 million out of a total of Rs197 million needed for the up-gradation of Pharmacy, Physics, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Departments as well as Agriculture College. The government has allocated Rs20 million for construction of a Sports complex, Students Centre and Campus Development of Bahauddin Zakariya University.  Similarly, Rs10 million is allocated for Sports Complex in Islamia University while many other allocations are made for construction of new girls and boys colleges in Lodhran, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan and many other districts.
