Lack of proper planning to cause famine like situation in entire country: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD- A drought like Thar situation will strike all the areas of the Pakistan if effective planning and pre-emptive measures are not taken to tackle water issue, said Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said today, if effective planning were not taken regarding water, a famine situation like Thar would hit many areas of the country,

The previous governments failed to build dams in the country and today India is building dams while occupying the rivers meant to be the possession of Pakistan, federal minister said.

“The incumbent government is trying to solve water issue with India so as to protect the region from further water related issues.”

While addressing a ceremony, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that if attention was not focused over the water issue, our country will face a great danger of food shortage and a famine like situation would occur in entire Pakistan too.

He said that an action plan has been prepared and a national conference will be called on 20 March to consider the matter further which would be participated by different experts the country.“ If proper planning had been adopted earlier then drought would not have struck Thar.”

He said Glacier is a big asset in the region but due to climate change it is also being melted causing flood and inundation.
