ISLAMABAD- The legal counsel for murdered naib Khateeb of Lal Masjid, Abdul Rasheed Ghazi and his deceased mother, Tariq Asad reportedly possesses documents, allegedly revealing unanimously consent of federal cabinet for operation against Lal Masjid. Advocate Tariq Asad’s Shuhada Foundation (Martyrs’ Foundation), succeeded accessing documents relating to Lal Masjid case; whereas the high-level police team led by DIG Islamabad Khalid Khattak failed in any such endeavor. The documents reveal that the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had briefed the cabinet that government’s efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue had failed over sheer obdurate behavior of Lal Masjid activists. Unsuccessful efforts by Chaudhry Shujat, Ejaz-ul-Haq and Imam-e-Ka’aba were cited as proofs, which necessitated government to enforce its flailing writ at any given cost. The documents are in sharp contrast to strong denials by Shaukat Aziz that Lal Masjid issue had ever been deliberated in the cabinet at all, and could also implicate Shaukat Aziz and his cabinet in FIR against former President Pervez Musharraf.
