State Minister for Postal Services Abdul Ghafoor Haidri has said the government is making efforts to put the country on road to progress and prosperity.
Addressing a motorbikes distribution ceremony to postmen at General Post Office here Tuesday, the JUI-F stalwart said that agreements worth about 45 billion dollars signed with Chinese government by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif during his recent visit to China would leave a positive impact on the economy.
Highlighting the importance of communication network and the strategic importance of Gwadar port, Maulana Haidri said the port after becoming function would open a new era of progress not only in Pakistan but the entire region.
He said that the port would become regional hub for incoming and outgoing commercial traffic to Central Asian countries.
The minister said that days were not far away when Pakistan would become a developed state.
He said that Imran Khan’s slogan of new Pakistan was different from the vision of the leaders of Pakistan Movement, adding that leaders of Pakistan Movement wanted imposition of Islamic culture in the country but Imran Khan was promoting the culture of dance and liberalism.
He said that those dreaming to derail the democracy had badly failed in their nefarious designs, adding that politics of sit-ins had caused huge loss of more than Rs100 billion to the national economy.
He said that Pakistan Post had a broad network even in far-flung areas and its more than 48,000 employees were delivering letters, money order, parcels to people at their door steps.
He urged the employees of postal services to work heard and perform their duties with dedication and strengthen their department as they earned livelihood for their families from it.
The state minister said that he presented salute to those employees who were killed during robberies while handling cash from one place to another.
Later, he gave away keys of motorbikes to 18 postmen.
Deputy Post Master General Ahsan Javed Awan, JUI-F District Ameer Maulana Zakriya, officers and large number of Postal Services employees were present at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Postal Services said that Pakistan Post had a key role in provision of communication links to individuals and businesses across the country.
Talking to newsmen in the office of Deputy Post Master General at GPO, he said that Pakistan Post had a very wide network of post offices even in far flung areas of the country.
He said that about 1.6 million pensioners were being provided payments through Pakistan Post every month.
Haideri said that Pakistan Post was focusing in use of information technology to improve its services.
He said that steps were being raised for installation of ATM machines to facilitate the people especially pensioners, adding that provision of bullet proof vehicles for handling cash was also under consideration. “A proposal for provision of commission to staff who collect utility bills is also in pipeline”, the minister said.
