BAHAWALPUR - The Islamia University of Bahawalpur vice chancellor said that nanotechnology has revolutionised the world of science and the humanity will reap maximum benefits from the development with big change in the industrial sector. He was addressing an inaugural session of the 2nd International Conference titled 'Semiconductors and Nano-Devices as chief guest. It was organised by Physics Department in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The three-day event is being held at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall Abbasia Campus of the IUB. The conference is being participated by renowned national and international scientists. The vice chancellor further said that the current conference will enable faculty, researchers and industrialists to counter the challenges of coming times. Addressing the moot, Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar said that after taking into consideration the limited resources and environment, such applicable methods must be discovered, which might become a source of development in the sector. He said that learning and research activities were continued in the IUB. He added that the conference was a continuity of the factor as the students could also take benefits from the experts of other universities which were frequently invited to the IUB to share their experience. He expressed his delight on the rare occasion as a galaxy of world fame scientists have gathered there. He said the guidance achieved by our students and researchers would be enormous and a beacon of light for them in their future pursuits. Later, he congratulated Dr M Asghar Hashmi and his team on organising the conference. Dr Zafar Iqbal of Florida University, USA presented his keynote address on the occasion. His topic was 'Semiconductor Materials and Nanotechnology, Principles, Fabrication and Future. Earlier, Faculty of Sciences Dean Dr Sheikh Aftab Ahmed welcomed the delegates and expressed his determination to carry out such an outstanding activity along with the faculty and students. Conference host Dr M Asghar Hashmi presented the aims and objectives of the event to observe the three years progress in nanotechnology to determine the strategy and targets for the proposed 2013 conference to further improve it. In this conference three delegates from USA and one from Sweden along with several Pakistani scientist are participating.
