No safe place for Hazara community in Quetta

QUETTA - Four people, including three Hazara men, were shot dead and three others wounded in separate incidents of firing in the provincial capital on Thursday.According to police, three people were sitting at a roadside stall on Shahr-i-Iqbal when armed motorcyclists fired shots at them, killing one of them on the spot and wounding another two critically. The deceased was identified as Sakhi Dad, a member of the Hazara community.The injured were shifted to Provincial Sandeman Hospital from where they were referred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).The shooting triggered panic in the area and all the shops were closed. Separately, unidentified people opened indiscriminate fire on a shop at Liaquat Bazaar, killing two people on the spot and injuring two others seriously. The dead were identified as Noor Ali and Noor Ahmed. “The victims belonged to Hazara community and it appeared to be a case of sectarian killing,” a police official said. The personnel of law enforcement agencies reached the spot. The Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) announced a sit-in outside the Governor’s House and CM Secretariat today (Friday) to protest against the targeted killings in provincial capital. A couple of days ago, six people of Hazara community were killed and another three wounded on Prince Road of Quetta. Separately, unidentified armed men killed Balochistan Weightlifting Association General Secretary Jabbar Khilji.The Balochistan Weightlifting Association General Secretary was on his way when armed motorcyclists sprayed a volley of bullets at him, wounding him critically.Police reached the site and moved the wounded to Provincial Sandeman Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.
