Low-intensity blast creates panic in court

MULTAN - Security was beefed up in and around Lahore High Court Multan Bench following a low intensity blast that took place in the backyard of High Court Bar building here on Monday. No life or property loss was reported from the blast site, though it slightly damaged a bathroom. The lawyers told journalists that the bomb was hidden in a washroom in the backside of the high court building. The lawyers claimed that it was a handmade time device while police officials contradicted their stance, claiming that it was just a cracker that was kept inside the washroom. The blast, however, panicked lawyers and citizens as they rushed out of the high court building after the blast. Talking to the journalists, the lawyers said that the blast took place due to poor security. Its failure of police. Theyve failed to ensure the security of High Court Bar premises. We strongly condemn it and demand immediate investigation, they added. Meanwhile, police surrounded entire premises and carried out thorough search of the building. However, nothing was found. Mepco suspends 3 officials for negligence: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has suspended its three sub-divisional officers for increase in line losses in their concerned areas and negligence here on Monday. The suspended officers include SDO Kacha Khoo Manzoor Ahmad, SDO City Sadiqabad Sajid Salah Uddin and SDO Mianwali Qureshian Shamasul Haq. The suspended officers are directed to report to Mepco headquarters. Similarly, action is launched against SDO first sub-division DG Khan Muhammad Ramzan under Pakistan Wapda Employees E & D Rules 1978.
