ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Punjab Inspector General of Police not to disturb seniority list of police officers till the final decision of the case. A two-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal and comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard a human rights case on the complaints of affected SPs. They have prayed that the Police Department was confiscating their seniority through giving shoulder promotion to some blue-eyed officers. They submitted that it was totally against the rules, which created unrest among the officers. Justice Javed Iqbal directed the IGP Punjab to decide all the cases of representation within one week and submit comprehensive report regarding total number of vacant posts, allocation of quota, how the categorisation was made and the cases of women police officers at Supreme Court Registrar office. The court said they were not looking into the cases of individuals but would give decision in accordance with the law. In the last hearing, Wajid Durrani IGP Sindh informed the court that there were 879 officers, whom were given shoulder promotions, while 216 officers are on ad hoc promotion. He said that shoulder promotion is not upgrading the rank. Justice Javed said that shoulder promotions become cause of heart burning for the deserving officers, whose promotion is due. He said: 'The political influence has damaged the police force. The case was adjourned for two weeks.
