Doctors refuse to treat swine flu patients

At least two more patients have been brought to Nishtar Hospital on suspicion of Swine Flu infection, hospital sources disclosed.
Those admitted to hospital are identified as Irshad Bibi, 60, a resident of Jalilabad Colony Dera Adda Multan, and 26 years old Aasia of Chowk Azam, Layyah. Both the patients were brought to hospital with severe flu and chest infection and their blood samples have been sent to National Institute of Health Islamabad for Swine Flu test.
At least 15 patients have so far tested positive out of which four have died while the remaining are being treated at Nishtar Hospital Multan.
On the other hand, the doctors and paramedical staff attending swine flu patients have refused to continue their duties till implementation of all precautionary measures including their own vaccination against the killer influenza virus.
Sources said that the head of isolation ward Dr Neelum Zubair informed the medical superintendent of Nishtar Hospital that the medical staff declined to discharge their duties without vaccination.
“The doctors and paramedical staff are also demanding masks, gowns, gloves and complete kits besides their vaccination,” she added. Medical Superintendent Dr Ashiq Malik told journalists that although he did not receive any demand from the doctors, the kits and vaccine were available at the hospital. He said that vaccination of medical staff would be done.
24 SUSPECTS HELD: In a major crackdown on outlaws, the district police have rounded up 24 suspects including nine proclaimed offenders, police sources said. The police also recovered 160 litres of liquor, over one kg charas, over one kg heroine, one mouser, one revolver, one rifle, two repeaters and six bullets from the arrested accused.
Those caught in possession of narcotics and liquor included Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Naem, Muhammad Kashif, Jeelo, Zulfiqar Ali, Shamshad, Muhammad Tariq, Irfanullah, Imran and Kashif. Similarly, Liaqat, Mushtaq, Faiz Bukhsh, Bahadur Ali and Jaffar were caught with illicit arms. The proclaimed offenders arrested during the crackdown included Saed, Abdul Rehman, Anwar, Jamal, Laal Muhammad, Ahmad Nawaz, Allah Rakha, Abdul Rasheed and Nasir Ali.
