Exports orders of billions of rupees are at stake due the goods transporters strike, bring all sort of export-oriented activities to a grinding halt, said Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Coordinator Ijaz A Khokhar.
Talking media here the other day, he said it was very unfortunate that no attempt had so far been made by the government for negotiation with the transporters for resolving the issue. Pakistan will face serious economic setback if the situation remains the same and the exporters will face serious economic repercussions due to the cancellation of export orders which will be a serious blow to the national exchequer," he said.
Ijaz pointed that SME sector was confronted with multiple problems as transporters strike had crippled the export-oriented activities because a large number of export consignments had been blocked from timely shipments as per the deadline by the buyers. He said that according to available information about 5000 containers had been struck due to the strike which may cause cancellation of export orders worth billions of rupee.
In order to avoid serious economic upheaval, the government should take immediate steps to negotiations with the transporters for resolving the issue on priority basis, he stressed. Ijaz said that the Sindh Chief Minister and other concerned should intervene into the matter and forced transporters to call off the strike for the larger national interest.
