Local bodies polls: 960 polling stations declared 'high sensitive'

LAHORE – Punjab Election Commissioner Masood Ahmed Malik today said a total of 960 polling stations have been declared ‘High Sensitive’ and another 3000 polling buildings declared ‘Sensitive’ for the second round of local bodies’ polls in 12 districts of the province to be held on November 19.

In a meeting of Chief Election Commissioner, Secretary Election Commission, Home Secretary and IG Punjab, RPOs and DROs of the 12 districts, provincial election commissioner in a media briefing said there are 12,000 polling stations and the services of more than 110.000 election officers have been employed for the conduct of second phase of local elections.

For the foolproof security arrangement, IG said 40 companies of Pak Army and six companies of Rangers will act as Quick Response Force focusing the high sensitive and sensitive polling buildings with patrolling in overall electioneering areas.

More than 100,000 police will be deployed for overall security of the election process. Lady police will be deployed at the women polling stations identified dangerous by the District Returning Officers, he added.

Secretary Election Commission said election in the Union Councils which was suspended due to court orders for wrong printing of the ballot papers will be held on December 14 or 15 after the third phase of local bodies’ polls. The third and final phase of the local bodies’ elections will be held on December 5.
