KARACHI The duration of electricity loadshedding reached up to 14 hours in some parts of the city on Wednesday. According to details, despite assurance of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and closure of CNG stations across the province, the KESC administration let the people soak up hot weather without electricity. According to sources, Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) had decided to resort to eight hours of power cuts during the day, however KESC was resorting to unannounced electricity loadshedding of up to 14 hours in most parts of the city, causing severe hardship to the people while the as a result of loadshedding, there is shortage of water in most areas of the city. Farid Memon, a resident of Garden Area, expressed that it was the result of the trickle down effect of the inefficiency and mismanagement of last decades and unfortunately, the elected parliament and government are as dysfunctional as their successors. He added that this is high time for the government and particularly the ministry of water and power to take power crisis seriously. People of Pakistan are already frustrated with political uncertainty, inflation, raise in petrol prices and street crimes. Their patience should not be tested further, he warned. It is worth mentioning here that Sui Southern Gas Company issued in a press release revealed that SSGC is facing a shortfall of 200 mmcfd, due to the Annual Turn Around (ATA) of Bhit Gas field, which commenced from midnight of 11 April 2011. On this the KESC management announced the duration of loadshedding up to 14 hours, however, officially the decision was reversed when the chief minister directed the KESC not to increase the loadshedding timings.
