Islamabad: Website of the upper house was disabled late Monday night, after it came under a hacking attack allegedly by ‘Tunis’ hackers.

The website (www.senate.gov.pk) came under the attack of hackers on Monday night and initial reports said that, the IP address could be traced to a foreign country. The website has now been restored and can be accessed.

Speaking to the channel, a Senate official said that they were coordinating with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), to retrieve the website and its data. When the NTC was trying to decode where the hack originated from, the only information that could be retrieved was ‘Tunis’. “Hence the attack could be traced back to a foreign country,” the senate official said. Another official added that the hackers carried out the attack on the Senate’s systems, “just for fun.”

However, other media reports suggested the hackers reportedly uploaded the blemish content against the Middle East, to spark fire between the Arab countries and Pakistan for their decision to not participate in the Yemen war.


The site is currently offline and no content is available for display for the time being. However, officials at the Senate claimed that the website had been retrieved.
