LAKI MARAWAT - Local politics took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when PML-N senior vice president and candidate for NA-27 Akhtar Munir Marwat announced his withdrawal from the election race paving the way for one-on-one tough contest between Maulana Attaur Rehman of JUI-F and Col (Ret) Ameerullah Marwat of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.
Munir Marwat told a crowded press conference that he took the decision of retiring from the election race on the orders of party leadership and in consultations with area elders and local party leaders.
He said that the PML-N and JUI-F leadership had reached an agreement that they would not field candidates against each other in bye-elections.
According to the agreement, he said the PML-N would not contest against the JUI-F in the constituencies, which had been won by the religious party in general elections.
Flanked by Fareedullah Meenakhel, Ishfaq Ahmad Khan, Faqeer Abdul Khalik, advocate Malik Shaukat Khan and other party leaders and area elders he told that he could not think about deviating from party policy or decisions of leadership.
“My family rendered sacrifices for the party in crucial times and always proved its locality with the party and its leadership,” he maintained.
He said that by keeping himself in the mainstream of party politics he could materialise his objectives to serve the people in a better way.“
To develop backward Marat area and to bring it on par with other developed parts of the country is my dream and the PML-N government will make it true,” he added. He said that Nawaz Sharif was his leader and he would implement his orders and decisions in letter and spirit.
