One-third complete edu projects shelved

Started five years ago, the construction of the building of Government Girls Degree College Chobara in Pasrur tehsil has been left incomplete for the last six months due to funds paucity.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had approved the project for providing higher educational facilities for thousands of female students belonging to the surrounding villages of Pasrur tehsil at local level five years ago. The construction work began on three acres of land at village Chobara with a total cost of Rs80 million.
Education department officials said that the 70 percent construction work had already been completed including the construction of classrooms and laboratories. Social, political and educational circles have expressed grave concern over the critical situation.
Likewise, the work at Govt Boys Primary School Sondhey project was also suspended seven years ago due to funds paucity. Local people had donated a piece of land of 15 kanals to establish the school for providing education to the local students of the surrounding villages.
Expressing grave concern over the critical situation, local people Haji Allah Rakha, Ch Ghulam Rasul , Iqbal Ahmed, Nasir Mehmood, Abdul Majeed Butt, Arif Mehmood Sheikh, Bashir Hussain and Muhammad Nazir said that the contractor had gone after leaving the project incomplete as only 20 percent construction was completed.
They urged the Punjab chief minister, commissioner Gujranwala and other officials concerned to to ensure early release of the needed funds for restarting the construction work.
