The members of Shia community took to the roads after learning about the attack on Imambargah in Hayatabad (Peshawar) as they staged demonstrations in different areas of Multan on Friday.
More than 100 Shias staged a demonstration at Sootri-wat (Bohar gate) to condemn the suicidal attack on Imam Bargah under the leadership of Amir of Wifaq Ulema-i-Shia Allama Syed Razi Jafar Naqvi, Allama Akhtar Hussain Naseem and Syed Muzayyan Abbas of Hadi Welfare Society. Participants were crying and beating their chests. They were chanting slogans against the Government for its failure to protect the lives and properties of the Shias. Addressing the demonstrators Syed Razi Jafar Naqvi said that our rulers should follow the Turkey and other countries who had rooted out the sectarianism. He said that we should not look at the Americans for bringing peace and tranquillity in our area.
Syed Muzayyan Abbas of HWS said that after killing 67 people in Shikarpur (Sindh) Government did nothing for the security and safety of the shia community .Their worship places are still insecure and unsafe. Earlier they addressed a joint press conference and said that they would observe the three day morning of those who martyred in Imambargah.
Political leaders including Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, have vehemently condemned the attack on the Peshawar imambargah. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain also issued strong condemnations.
