PESHAWAR - While expressing satisfaction over eight months performance of PTI-led coalition government for ensuring merit, transparency and eradicating corruption, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Council Shura asked provincial government to take solid steps for the restoration of peace in the province.
This demand was made at the JI KPK Shura meeting held with JI Provincial Ameer Professor Mohammad Ibrahim Khan in the chair at Al-Markazi Islami. The shura passed 10 different resolutions on the occasion.
The JI, which is a coalition partner in the PTI-led provincial government, expressed satisfaction over the overall eight months performance of the government by praising eradication from government departments and ensuring merit and transparency there. However, in the same resolution, the JI asked government to take more solid steps to restore peace in the militancy-hit KPK province.
Expressing concern over the reports that former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf might be sent abroad, the JI KPK through another resolution, demanded the federal government to ensure completion of former dictator Pervez Musharraf trial in the treason case. Besides, the participants of the meeting asked government to ignore every pressure and ensure supremacy of the law in the treason case.
The meeting also expressed reservations over the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines and appealed to chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of government’s bid and protect national institutions. As according to the JI, a particular business lobby had been busy hatching conspiracies against the national airlines for a long time. The JI provincial Shura also discussed preparation for the upcoming local government elections in the province and directed its workers to expedite preparations in this regards. In his speech, JI KPK amir Ibrahim Khan said that talks with PTI for seat-to-seat adjustment at the district level were in progress.
He expressed his optimism that two parties JI, PTI would contest the local government polls from a united platform. Through another resolution, the JI criticiSed the hike in the prices of daily use stuff and called upon federal government to take immediate steps for bringing down the prices of necessary commodities in line with the promises that the ruling PML-N made with the people during the election campaign.
The party said that federal government should pay net hydel profit to the KPK government immediately. It alleged that US drone attacks and the weak policies of the federal government have foiled the bid for talks with the militants. The JI shura praised party workers for blocking Nato supply routs said added that supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan would suspended until US announce a complete stoppage of drone strikes on Pakistan’s soil.
