MULTAN-State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that the both consumers and power distribution companies staffers involved in power pilferage deserve punishment equally.
Chairing a high level meeting here at the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) headquarters on Tuesday, he issued order for removal of entire staff of Kabirwala and Shujabad divisions as well as Bosan Road sub division on charges of increase in line losses. He declared that the officers and workers showing good performance would be rewarded while those declining to discharge their duties would be punished.
He directed the Chief Executive Officer of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) Engr Abdul Rasheed Tariq to evolve a work plan for bringing the losses down at all feeders with high line losses ratio and submit report with his office fortnightly.
Speaking on this occasion, advisor to the prime minister on power Dr Mussaddiq Malik said that serious efforts were being made to end loadshedding in the country on direction of Prime Minister. He added that the Prime Minister wanted to supply electricity to the public at cheaper rates besides ending loadshedding. He said that the gas quota of fertilizer sector had been given to the power sector for generation of electricity as a result of which power production increased and loadshedding went down.
He claimed that the gas crisis would also decrease current year because of LNG import. He said that the performance of power generation and distribution companies was being monitored by the government which caused improvement in their performance. He declared that all those using electricity would have to pay their bills.

The drama festival was organized by Indus Research and Development Organization (IRDO), an NGO, that is running the two-year EAMP in Multan and Muzaffargarh to nurture the creative capabilities of students and guide natural youth enthusiasm to positive and developmental activities, says IRDO head Saqib Awan. EAMP was being run with assistance from US in 20 districts in the country.
