HAFIZABAD - Encroachments on the city roads particularly in Main Bazaar Hafizabad and other busy chowks are increasing day by day allegedly under the patronage of elected representatives and TMA staff causing frequent traffic jams.
Moreover, the two grain markets in the heart of the city are also creating traffic problems.
The Market Committee of Hafizabad acquired land on Madhrianwala Road about 12 years ago for the establishment of new grain market and shifting of the markets to the new sites.
Before every harvesting, the administration promises to shift the grain markets to the new sites but the promise has not so far been fulfilled.
There is no shortage of traffic policemen in the area as they remain present at the busy chowks and roads but take no interest to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Different local organisations including Shehri Mahaz and Citizens Association have appealed to the authorities concerned to remove encroachments particularly from the old Katcheri Road, Vanike Chowk, Fawara Chowk, near Railway gates and bus stands on Gujranwala Road.
