ISLAMABAD – Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf would be leaving for official tours abroad Monday, with the former paying a two-day visit to Baku‚ Azerbaijan, to attend the 12th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation and the latter heading for oil-rich Kuwait for a conference and meetings with the Emir and several other leaders.
President Asif Ali Zardari would represent Pakistan at the ECO summit beginning in Baku on Tuesday. The presidents of member countries will discuss cooperation in the various sectors, including trade‚ energy‚ transport‚ environment and agriculture.
The ECO was set up in 1985 for developing the regional economic cooperation among Turkey‚ Iran and Pakistan. Later on‚ Afghanistan‚ Azerbaijan‚ Kazakhstan‚ Uzbekistan‚ Tajikistan and Turkmenistan also became its members.
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf would also begin his two-day official visit to Kuwait from Monday. Besides attending a conference, the premier will hold meetings with the Emir and other leaders of the host country.
