Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umer Atta Bandiyal has said that the national institutions could only be strengthened by ensuring implementation of the Constitution and the law.
Addressing a meeting hosted by the Sialkot District Bar Association, Mr Bundiyal, he said that all the reservations about the rule of law in Pakistan have now ended up due to positive and effective role of the lawyers community and the judiciary in Pakistan. The CJ stressed the need for strengthening national institutions by ensuring rule of law and bringing further betterment in the judicial system for dispensing justice to the needy, oppressed and poor in the society.
He said that the judiciary had finished the 2008 backlog of cases in the courts and now was making sincere efforts to finish the backlog of 2011 cases. Mr Bandiyal narrated that the judiciary is a pivotal pillar of the state. Under the Constitution, it has greater responsibilities on its shoulders "Therefore, it has to be strong enough to shoulder administration of justice. It has to provide strength to the other pillars as well. The country's progress is linked to abiding by the law and supremacy of the Constitution," he added.
He said that the rule of law is a must for national development, prosperity, peace and justice. He also stressed the need for making an all-out effort to provide better working atmosphere in courts to dispense the speedy justice. He said that pleasant atmosphere was also vital to bring betterment of judiciary working.
The chief justice said that it was demand of the day to promote good working relationship between the bar and the bench for providing early and easy justice. He said that the lawyers' community should play its pivotal role in ensuring smooth provision of justice and removing all the hurdles from this way.
He said justice is the concept of moral righteousness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, fairness and equity. He said that the judiciary was free, impartial and independent.
On the occasion, District and Sessions Judge Sialkot Shahid Rafiq, additional and sessions judges, civil judges, Sialkot DCO Iftikhar Ali Sahu and Sialkot President DBA Malik Mushtaq Awan were also present.
POLICE CLUELESS ABOUT FIRE INCIDENT: Daska City police remained clueless on Sunday about the incident of fire, in which two buses parked at the Govt. Special Education Centre were gutted last week.
Reportedly, the two buses, meant for transportation of special children studying there, were parked at the centre's ground, caught fire and were gutted. The security men was absent from his duties during the time. The worth of the burnt buses was stated to be about Rs3 million.
Now, the special students are suffering a great ordeal in reaching as they have to travel by vehicles for reaching there. Their parents urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to look into the matter.
District Coordination Officer Iftikhar Ali Sahu visited the Centre and expressed grave concern over the nasty incident in which some unknown had set ablaze the two buses. The DCO directed Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Ahmed to ensure early arrest of the perpetrators besides registering a case.
