BHC CJ escapes bomb attack

Karachi - The chief justice of Balochistan High Court on Saturday survived a powerful bomb explosion targeting his convoy in Naushki district.
The convoy of BHC CJ Noor Muhammad Maskanzai was targeted through a remote-controlled blast at Kharan bridge near Naushki town.
A police official said that the judge was coming from his hometown Kharan to Naushki when he was attacked by a roadside bomb. The explosion partially destroyed the bridge.
“An improvised explosive device planted underneath a bridge in Naushki exploded after chief justice’s convoy crossed it,” Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Durrani told AFP.
He said the chief justice escaped unhurt, but one of the paramilitary Frontier Corps vehicles that was escorting his car was slightly damaged.
The top local administration official Qambar Dashti also confirmed the incident.
The chief justice was on a visit of lower courts in Kharan and Naushki for the last few days.
Frontier Corps, police and levies personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
The blast also destroyed a portion of Kharan bridge. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
In the past, convoys of former governor Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi and former chief minister Nawab Raisani were also targeted through remote controlled bombs. However, the two top high-ups remained safe in the attacks.
