ISLAMABAD The Indus River Basin can be seen as a laboratory for development of civilisations and it will remain so in the future. The development of the Indus River Basin plays an important role in the region. There is a huge irrigation system that links the global forces of Indus River water to national, local and even to households. James Wescoat, a MIT Professor, expressed these views while delivering a lecture. As a part of regular series of networking events, held by the Fulbright /Humphrey Alumni Association, United States Educational Foundation of Pakistan (USEFP) organised a session on Rethinking Water here on Friday. The session was attended by the leading NGOs of Pakistan working in the Water Resource Management. Professor Wescoats research concentrated on water systems in South Asia and the United States, from the site to river basin scales. He led the Smithsonian Institutions project on Garden, City, and Empire: The Historical Geography of Mughal Lahore.
