ISLAMABAD - Qasim Amin Dada, one of the board members of National Insurance Company Limited, has been a missing link in the NICL scam for his close links with the chief of Transparency International (TI) Adil Gilani and his arrest would bring to the fore many disclosures with regard to the multi-billion-rupee land scandal. Zafar Ahmed Qureshi, Director FIA, Lahore who is heading investigations in the scam informed this before the meeting of Senate Standing Committee of Commerce that was held at the Parliament House on Friday. The Committee met under the chairmanship of Senator Ilyas Balour to have a detailed briefing on the investigations conducted so far by FIA in the scam. Director General (DG) FIA, Waseem Ahmed; Moazzam Jah, Director FIA Karachi and many senior officers of Ministry of Commerce also attended the meeting. Zafar Qureshi also informed the Committee that FIA had received many complaints against Adil Gilani after his alleged involvement in the NICL scam and these would be probed further. Senator Haroon Akhtar advised FIA not to give a clean chit to the Chairman TI, if his involvement was found at any stage adding at that they would not allow any one to harm the image of state at the behest of foreign interests. Director FIA Lahore said that former Chairman NICL Ayyaz Khan Niazi in his statement recorded before FIA had levelled serious charges against Adil Gillani of his involvement in the mega corruption scandal. Qasim Amin Dad, member board of directors (BoD) of NICL had told the other members of BoD that Adil Gillani had assured him that if NICL would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TI, the organisation will scan all the bidding and contract processes of the company and thus give a clean chit to it in all financial matters, Zafar Qureshi added while quoting the statement of Niazi recorded before the investigators. FIA has already arrested Ayyaz Niazi. Zafar Qureshi said that all members of BoD including Hur Riahi Gardazi, Syed Naveed Hussain Zaidi and Athar Hussain Naqvi had endorsed the statement of Niazi. He said that Qasim Amin Dada had sent his confidential statement to the FIA by post. However, it is interesting to note that when Adil Gillani, while responding to a set of questionnaires of FIA recorded his statement, mentioned some parts of the statement of Qasim Amin Dada. He was amazed that if Adil Gillani had no link with Dada, how he came to know about his confidential statement sent to FIA.
