Another disaster may hit flood-hit Rajanpur

RAJANPUR -Rajanpur, a district of 1.6 million people, is yet to be reconstructed and rehabilitated in the wake of devastating floods of 2010 while another such catastrophe is feared to hit the area. However, the government is allegedly doing nothing to protect the lives and property.
The National Disaster Management Authority has pinpointed some of the districts which flood is likely to hit. Jampur is the largest tehsil of Rajanpur with a population of over 300,000. It is the biggest revenue-generating hub through tobacco and cotton crops and it had to sustain a huge loss.
A team of local journalists visited the area and protecting dyke where all the streamlets are full of water. Especially, the team visited the Sheroo Dyke and the its supporting dykes where stones were simply being dropped along them.
However, the people of the area said that Rs200 million had been approved for laying stone shields on the dykes to protect them from water erosion but the Punjab and governmen.
