BHC fumes at teachers’ woes

QUETTA - The Balochistan High Court on Wednesday expressed concern over appalling condition of education in the province and directed the higher education secretary to appear before the court on next hearing along with complete information about slain teachers, victims of targeted killings.
A division-bench comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Essa and Justice Qadir Mengal expressed anger during hearing of petition filed by the Balochistan Professors and Lecturers Association. The Court had already restrained the Education Department from recruitment on vacant posts of professors, assistant professors and lecturers on contract-basis as petitioner stated that these vacant positions could not be filled on contract basis and only be filled through the Balochistan Public Service Commission. The education department submitted the report about the recruitment of lecturers at Muslim Bagh College. The court expressed its anger, saying that information was incomplete.
The Schools and Colleges director appeared before the court and informed that there were number of schools in Muslim Bagh, where only single teacher was available. He added that there were also many colleges where only few teachers were performing duties.
The CJ said that the appointment of lecturers on contract-basis was a clear discrimination, due to which the education and future of the region would be at verge of destruction. “The teachers have great respect in civilized society, but unfortunately teachers are being brutally killed in Balochistan,” Chief Justice remarked.
Chief Justice said, “There is no difference between the Education Department and terrorists because both are involved in excesses with teachers.”
The court directed the secretary Education to appear before the court along with complete record of the slain teachers.
