ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has postponed the meeting scheduled to be held on Friday till indefinite period.
The meeting was due to deliberate upon the opinion from Law Ministry over the complaint filed by Defence Ministry on the issue of a private TV channel (GEO TV). However Member of PEMRA Israr Abbassi talking to a private TV channel said that the meeting was called by PEMRA authority and it could not be cancelled by a single person. He said meeting will undergo today according to the schedule. Israr Abbassi said if there will be four members present then meeting will undergo today and decision would be given. He said, to nominate Kamal-ul-dean in the meeting is illegal, he will not to be allowed to sit in the meeting, pressure from the government is now open and it seems that government wants to abolish PEMRA. According to PEMRA sources, the Law Ministry has not yet submitted its opinion to the authority.
