Dialysis centres running sans urologists

Our Staff reporter SIALKOT - The kidney patients have been suffering from great difficulties in the dialysis of their kidneys due to non-availability of any urologist at dialysis units established at Sialkots both DHQ hospitals namely Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital and Govt Sardar Begum Memorial DHQ Hospital. The Punjab government had established kidneys dialyses centres at both of the DHQ hospitals in 2009 (two years ago) with a sole aim of providing advanced kidney treatment to local patients at local level. Since then, no urologist and other staff could be deputed at these hospitals, wherein casual medical officers were performing their duties as urologists due to which these dialysis units were not producing required results in this regard. The affected kidney patients and their heirs belonging to the districts all four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils have expressed grave concern over the critical situation. They have urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Commissioner Gujranwala Division Saeed Wahla and DCO Mujahid Sher Dil to look into the matter. When contacted, Sialkot EDO (Health) Dr Syed Talat Iqbal told the newsmen that the situation had been repeatedly brought into the notice of the officials concerned of the Punjab Health Department but no urologist could be appointed here. Sialkot traders reject two holidays in week: The Sialkot traders' community has strongly rejected the federal govt's recently announced energy-conservation plan including the two holidays in a week and closure of the business markets at sunset.
