LAHORE - Majority of the ignorant victims are facing severe obstacles in order to approach the police officers, officials concerned and the police officers also kicked them off from their rooms advising to contact the concerned persons, the survey conducted under the auspicious of TheNation revealed on Tuesday. According to the interviews conducted from the victims - men, women and youths - in the outskirts of 25 police stations, almost 1/3 of total 77 police stations in the provincial capital, it was revealed that there must be a police officer/official to guide the uneducated and ignorant applicants regarding their problems and suggest them to visit the officer concerned. As the deputy officers have failed to guide the people at the police stations. The data was collected after this scribe visited three police stations of Sadar Division, four in Allama Iqbal Town Division, four in Model Town Division, six in City Division, three in Civil Lines Division and five in Cantt Division. Total 125 people including 70 youths, 30 women and 25 old persons, were interviewed by this scribe during a weeklong survey, which showed the police officers recklessly kicked the victim from the vicinity of the police station, showing negligence towards them. Almost 50 per cent of women compared to men however expressed positive opinions, saying that the Station House Officers (SHOs) and Investigation Officers had soft corners towards them and behave politely. However 80 per cent of youths expressed their anger, saying the SHOs and IOs often abused them besides hurling severe threats during meeting or investigation process. Almost 15 per cent old persons said that police officers, officials remained silent after listening their problems, sometimes take no notice of even their presence. When asked if there should be a Public Dealing Office (PDO) or Public Relation Officer (PRO) at each police station to guide the victims, almost 98 per cent were of the view that it must be done on priority basis. They said what the big guns of police department may give name to the officer - PDO or PRO - who may guide them but it must be done immediately to avoid further inconvenience. A 65-year-old Raheem Dad Khan, a retired school teacher, who had just left Mughalpura police station, said that gatekeeper (police officer deputed at the PS gate) advised him to meet SHO. After wasting my time almost for two hours in SHOs room, I was directed to meet information officer, who further advised me to meet the officer who had visited the crime scene, he added. Raheem Dad said that after staying in PS for six hours, he was informed that the officer who visited the crime scene was on leave. Now what can I do, he added. Lahore Police (Operations) spokesman Nayyab Haider said that a DO was deputed at ever police station to guide the victims. He said the people must contact him regarding their problems. Responding to a question, he said that if any DO showed negligence, the victims could contact to DIG Office.
