PESHAWAR - Mehsud Group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Friday claimed responsibility for attacks on Samungali and Khalid airbases in Quetta in which 12 militants were killed while 11 security personnel got injured. In an audio message Azam Tariq, a senior commander and spokesperson of Mehsud Group of TTP, said, “On Thursday night a suicide attack was carried out by Taliban suicide bombers. It was revenge of ongoing military operation in North Waziristan Agency, drone strikes and the killings of militants in the custody of security forces.”According to security officials in Balochistan, the militants attacked Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) Samungali Airbase and Khalid Military Airbase but the attacks were thwarted due to timely retaliations. While giving details about the attacks, Tariq said, “Members from suicide squad of Sajna Group, Mohmand Taliban’s Aafia Brigade and suicide squad of Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) took part in this joint venture.” He further said that Commander Salaar Mehsud was leading the combined suicide bombers squad. While commenting over the ongoing long marches, Tariq said, “It is political tussle which is being fought under the directions of security establishment and the US. We have no concern with it and we believe in jihad.”Commander Khan Said Sajna, also known as Commander Khalid in militant circles, separated from Maulana Fazlullah-led TTP and announced his own faction ‘Halqa-e-Mehsud TTP’ earlier in May 2014. At the time of separation from TTP it was a common impression that Sajna Group has become ‘good Taliban’ and now its activities would be against the US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan but Thursday’s attack proved it wrong. Since separation from main TTP it has been the first activity of Sajna group in Pakistan. This news was published in The Nation newspaper. Read complete newspaper of 16-Aug-2014 here.
