Two Christian girls attacked with acid in Quetta

QUETTA - A man severely injured two Christian girls in Quetta on Friday by throwing acid on their faces in the city’s Kasi Road.
27-year-old Rimsha Masih and 16-year-old Hinah Masih were attacked with acid, Capital City Police Officer Razzaq Cheema confirmed. The incident occurred in Basit Panchait Market, the area having a large Christian population.
Through a syringe, the accused sprayed acid on the faces of both the girls, the police said. “The injured nominated Vijay Masih, a Christian man, for the crime,” Cheema said. Vijay is the resident of Brewery Road and belongs to Christian community.
The women were rushed to Lady Hospital near the crime scene. Later, they were shifted to Provincial Sandeman Hospital from where they were taken to Bolan Medical College Teaching Hospital. The doctors confirmed that they were receiving medical treatment in the burn ward of BMC.
“Rimsha’s face was 30 percent affected while 15 percent face of Hina burnt in the attack,” Nowsherwani added.
Meanwhile, police managed to arrest the accused nominated in the case. He said the assailant had used a large syringe to spray the acid on the girls.
Cheema said the incident appeared to be linked to some old enmity over a rejected marriage proposal. He, however, pointed out that in the past women had been attacked with acid by religious fanatics. Last year at least four women were attacked with acid-filled syringes in different parts of Balochistan, while in 2011, four female Baloch schoolteachers were attacked with acid by unknown culprits, he added.
