LAKKI MARWAT - Speakers at a workshop called upon the health workers to sensitise people about the usefulness of using long lasting insecticide nets to protect themselves from malaria and other mosquito borne diseases.
Malaria Control Programme of the provincial health department with the collaboration of Merlin International had arranged the training workshop on ‘LLINs distribution Strategies and User Guide’ at the district headquarters hospital Tajazai on Thursday.
Merlin International Project Officers-Sajid Kamal and Ms Dina Naz briefed the participants on the usage and components of distribution strategies of nets. They also shed light on the usefulness of bed nets and equipped the health workers with recording and reporting tools/ techniques for LLINs. They said that a new mechanism had been chalked out to monitor the process of distribution bed nets to individuals. After collecting data from distribution outlets and health centre the monitor will go to the houses of beneficiaries to authenticate the data and check the availability of nets there”, they maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, EDO health Dr Abdul Ghaffar Wazir and DDO Dr Abdul Rehman said that all programs aimed at to eradicate malaria and other diseases would be made a success at all costs. They said that health workers had a vital role on their part to educate people about usefulness of bed nets and other initiates launched by government for the provision of better healthcare facilities at grass roots level. “Malaria is a dangerous disease and it can cause serious complications if proper and immediate treatment was not availed on time”, they maintained, saying that the use of LLINs is the cheap source to defeat malaria and other mosquito borne diseases. They urged for involving lady health workers and lady health supervisors in the process of monitoring to check availability of long lasting insecticides nets in households.
Two killed in separate firing incidents
Two persons, including a retired college teacher, were killed in separate firing incidents in the limits of Lakki Marwat Police Station, police said on Thursday.
They said in Begukhel, a man along with his accomplice killed his uncle over a land dispute and escaped. They said Mashal Khan and his son Hameed Khan were going to fields when they were sprayed with bullets by Younas Khan (deceased’s nephew) and Gul Tayyaz in Alam Shahkhel street of the village. Resultantly, Mashal Khan died on the spot while his son Hameed Khan miraculously escaped”, they told saying that a case was registered against the killers and investigation has been started.
In another incident, a retired college teacher Haji Nader Khan was ambushed by his rivals near his house in Mohallah Hafizabad of Lakki. As a renowned educationist and a man of letter the deceased teacher Haji Nader Khan earned a great respect in the entire district especially among his students, teacher community and education circles.
He served as professor in English department at Government Postgraduate College Lakki. After retirement he joined a private college as a principal with the aim to promote education in the backward district.
His son Khalid Salim has nominated Aqeel Khan and his brother Rashid Khan in the FIR for killing his father Haji Nader Khan. He told police that his family had a blood feud with the accused party. Police started investigation into the murder incident of retired teacher after registration of case against the killers under relevant section of law.
