US refuses to give reply to Pakistan govt letter seeking Dr Aafia Siddiqui release : DAG

KARACHI: Counsel for Dr Aafia has said, his client can be repatriated to Pakistan under an ordinance promulgated in 2002.

The petition seeking repatriation of convicted Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the US to Pakistan, came up for hearing before Sindh High Court (SHC) today.

Counsel for Dr Aafia said, “If attorney generals of Pakistan and US agree then convicted Dr Aafia Siddiqui can be shifted to Pakistan.”

Deputy Attorney General (DAG) told that US had refused to give reply to a letter sent by government of Pakistan seeking Dr Aafia release.

Counsel for petitioner said that Dr Aafia was awarded punishment of 86 years on baseless charges. According to international laws Dr Aafia cannot be sentenced for 86 years. Pakistan did not resort to US as per court’s orders, he added.

Chief Justice SHC remarked that court would give decision after reviewing the arguments.
