ISLAMABAD - Although the erstwhile coalition partners of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) are likely to convene meeting, yet the revival of MMA is not on the cards due to dissenting notes of some major religio-political factions. The main members of non-functional MMA are in contact with each other even after its split but major differences are unlikely to settle down in near future, sources in the political parties shared with TheNation. Though the move of JUI-F to part ways with PPP-led government in centre was assumed to be a bridge to defuse the differences between the previous coalition partners, yet it was seemingly proved fruitless for the revival of MMA. JUI-F had decided to sit on opposition benches because the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani sacked Azam Swati from the slot of Federal Minister for Science and Technology on alleged Hajj scam, as other major religious political partners like Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) did not consider it a step leading to the MMA revival. If the JUI-F had decided to sit on opposition benches in centre, why the same decision was not practiced in Balochistan, said the sources in JI considering it a one of major hurdles of persisting split. Terming it double standards, they quoted the example of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for sitting on opposition benches in the centre, but they are in government in Punjab. It was learnt that other former coalition partners are also not on the same page with JUI-F over its possessing a chairmanship of Kashmir Committee, as they consider this slot with the consent of PPP-led government. When contacted, JI leader Liaqat Baloch said the main reason of the split of MMA was not following the basics of charter. He also left the impression that till the removal of main differences, the revival of the MMA was not likely. Although the previous religious parties are in contact with each other but the alliance like situation is not on cards in near future due to difference of opinion on some matters, he added. He also hinted at dissenting note on the moves of one of major erstwhile coalition partner, as he considered the different moves with the consent of PPP-led government. While, Maulan Ajmad from JUI-F said that the revival of MMA was the top priority and wish of JUI-F and all out efforts are underway in this regards. He said that JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman was in contact with other former MMA partners regarding re-alliance among these factions. To a question about upcoming meeting of former MMA partners, he said it was to be held by the mid of September but due to natural calamity like flood and dengue fever it would be convened a bit late. Earlier, the former coalition factions of MMA were to convene an important meeting by the mid of September to discuss revival of MMA and ongoing political situation in the country. This meeting was to be participated by JUI-F, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, JI, Tehreek Islami and others.
