PML-N lawmakers force CCB not to take action

Two senior law makers of PML-N have asked the Cantonment Board (CCB) high-ups not to serve them with notice regarding their housing society in Dhoke Banaras Millatabad pleading that any disciplinary action would tarnish their political image, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation here on Monday. Sources said the housing society was “illegal.”
The duo was using Board funds to carry out the development work on the housing society with the help of Building Department Incharge and other employees of the Board, sources said. This development work also raised the land price from Rs35,000 per marla to Rs350,000 per marla, sources informed.
The CCB bigwigs are in a state of confusion how to bell the cat at a time when other owners of “illegal” housing societies were eventually depositing their dues and getting the maps passed from CCB, sources added. In a bid to save their skins, the PML-N lawmakers allegedly lied to the CCB authorities that the land belonged to one of their drivers, sources said.
According to sources, the construction work on an illegal housing society on 14 kanals,  Khasra Number 859 and 906 of Dhoke Banaras Millatabad was in full swing. The owners, who are PML-N lawmakers and real brothers, have not got the map passed from CCB nor have they met other legal requirements that are mandatory for building a housing society, sources said adding that a newly appointed building inspector of CCB unearthed this scam and made his mind to serve a notice to the owners of the “illegal” housing society.
“Somebody leaked this information to the politicians who came into action and started using their political influence to stop the Board from serving them with notice or take any legal action,” sources added. Sources said that the senior politician rung up CCB CEO and asked him to not send them notice as this would damage their political repute. The N league parliamentarian apprised CEO that this land was owned by one of his drivers, sources asserted.
CCB CEO, Faheem Zafar, when contacted, confirmed that the owners of the society had not fulfilled legal requirements such as passing the map from the department concerned. He added that there was no record of housing society available with the CCB.
“I phoned the senior politician and inquired him about the matter, who told me this housing society and land was owned by his driver whose name was not in the legislator’s mind,” the CEO said. He said that the senior politician requested him not to serve them with notice as it would be disastrous for their political career.
However, the CEO promised to take strict action against the violators whoever and wherever they were. “For this, I have sought Station Commander’s help as well,” he said. Nonetheless, sources insisted that the CCB high up were playing a double game by serving notices to other owners of “illegal” housing societies of the same area but sparing the influential political leaders of PML-N.
“None of the brothers will ever approach the CCB to get their housing society registered as they have to provide registries of the land to the Board. The name of real owners mentioned on the registries will reveal the names of the real owners of the land,” sources said. This land does not belong to any driver of the PML-N legislators rather it is owned by the two brothers, sources insisted.
